6 Lessons Learned: Candles

Why You Switch to Soy Candles Paraffin wax is usually used in making candles, but soy candles make another option on the market. While they may look and smell alike, soy offers distinct advantages. Not all soy candles are the same, however. Some have are almost chemical-free, while others contain additives or are combined with paraffin wax. Hence, before buying soy candles, make it a point to check the label or ask the manufacturer if you have doubts. Below are six advantages of soy candles over their more conventional counterparts: 1. They are made from nature.
5 Uses For Candles
Obviously, soy candles are made from oil coming from the vegetable, soybean. On the other hand, petroleum oil is the key ingredient of standard paraffin candles. In short, unlike paraffin candles, soy wax candles do not add to the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. And soy candles do not need chemicals for scenting. If a soy candle is one hundred percent soy and is infused with essentials oils (instead of chemical fragrances), then it may be considered an all-natural soy candle.
Getting Down To Basics with Scents
2. Their scent is better. Since soy wax has a lower melting point, more of the liquid wax lingers around the candle wick. Remember that this pool of liquid wax and the wick itself are the source of essential oils evaporating and filling the air with their fragrance. 3. They have no toxic properties. Soy candles are non-toxic, being made from vegetable oil, having a lower melting point (the wax itself doesn’t get extremely hot), producing very little soot, and discharging no carcinogens into the air. In contrast to paraffin candles, soy wax candles are generally harmless to humans, animals, and the environment. Plus, soap and water are all you need to clean up liquid wax when it spills. 4. They last longer. Though soy wax candles may be more expensive to buy than standard candles, they are actually more cost-effective because they last at least 50% longer. In addition, because soy candles burn evenly, they leave almost no excess wax on the sides of their containers. 5. They burn cleaner. Soy candles also burn cleaner compared to typical paraffin candles, and which means they don’t produce black soot as much. Candle soot is not as innocent as you may realize. Burning so many candles over time makes your walls & furniture discolor and even stains the sides of your carpet! These things aren’t just ugly to look at, but they can also decrease the quality of your indoor air. 6. Soy candles are made by U.S. farmers. Yes, the United States is the top producer of soy around the world, so buying soy candles is just like helping our American farmers.
